Princess and the Monkey

Princess and the Monkey (1913) is arguably the most famous painting of the renowned Latvian artist, Janis Rozentāls (1866-1916). The beautifully delicate composition showcases the aesthetics of the Art Nouveau era. The painting exudes gentle beauty, playfulness and charm.

Always hard working, Janis Rozentāls spent most of his time in his studio, taking only short breaks. He painted with a cigarette in one hand, chain-smoking. Rozentāls was a celebrity, popular and loved, his art sold well during his lifetime.
